Alaska’s Ocean Fishing Industry
In 1959, Alaska became the 50th state of the United States. It had already been practicing conservation of its wild fish population before that time. There were already measures in place to ensure the future of the fishing industry. Alaska has never had any of its wild fish population listed on the endangered species list. It has always worked to regulate fishing for sustainability. The fleets that fish the waters around the state have a mandate to keep enough population to continue each species. This has worked well and has kept Alaskan waters full of fish to catch.
